Iron is an important nutrient in the human body, which helps in making blood, especially red blood cells. The deficiency of iron leads to a decrease in the production of blood molecules, which is called anemia.

How to use iron correctly for better absorption?

The correct use of iron at the correct time and with the correct food helps the maximum absorption of iron.

Food that decreases the absorption of iron:

Food that decreases the absorption of iron is calcium-containing foods, such as calcium supplements or foods such as milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. These calcium-containing foods decrease the absorption of iron; healthcare providers should teach patients to take at least a 12-hour gap between iron and calcium supplements.

Vitamin D is an essential vitamin in our body. It plays various crucial roles in different systems, such as the skin, brain, and gut. So, to work vitamin D properly, it is necessary to take it at the correct time and with the correct food and avoid food that decreases its absorption.

The following foods should be avoided with vitamin D, because these foods interfere with its absorption.

  • Alcohol:
  • Legumes:
  • Preserved food:

  • Vitamin C should be used with food and water, as it is a water-soluble vitamin, so taking it with water and food increases its absorption.
  • Always take vitamin C with food that contains iron, as it enhances the absorption of iron, which is very beneficial for patient having low iron, such as anemia.
  • Never take the vitamin C dose once a day; rather, it should be taken in divided doses throughout the day to maintain the maximum levels in the body.
  • Do not take vitamin C with calcium-containing products such as milk or calcium supplements.

Magnesium: Correct use of vitamins for best results

Magnesium plays an important role in muscle functioning, nerve health, energy production, and also helps in bone health. Deficiency of magnesium leads to muscle aches or cramps and fatigue. So, the normal amount or level of magnesium in the body is necessary.

How to use magnesium for better absorption?

It is very necessary to take magnesium in a correct way for its better absorption. The following tips should be followed for better magnesium levels in the body. The correct doses should be taken to avoid high levels in the body.

  • Do not take magnesium with fiber and fats, as fibers bind with magnesium and interfere with its absorption, and also, high-fat meals decrease the absorption. The best way to take magnesium is with water and a light meal.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol with magnesium; it decreases absorption.
  • Certain medications, such as antacids known as proton pump inhibitors,s interfere with the absorption of magnesium. So, while taking magnesium treatment, PPIs should be avoided.
  • Some antirejection medications, such as cyclosporin, decrease the levels of magnesium in the body, so supplemental magnesium must be used with such medications as per the advice of the healthcare provider.

Vitamin B complexes: Correct use of vitamins for best results

B complexes are a group of vitamins such as vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, andB122. These vitamins play an important role in

  • Energy production
  • Brain health
  • Maintaining nerve health by protecting the myelin sheath
  • Help in blood production specially red blood cells.
  • Boosting the immune system

Food which interfere the absorption ofย vitamin B complexes:

Following food decreases the absorption of B complexes.

  • Should not be taken with alcohol as alcohol depletes these vitamins from the body,y especially vitamin B1 and B12.
  • Should avoid caffeinated drinks while having complexes
  • Tea should be avoided while having vitamin B complexes as treatment.
  • Raw fish inhibits vitamin B12 absorption.
